Description
Chalk over Charcoal sketch
Dodd House, LaGrange, Georgia
Dodd House is the first in a new architectural series I have planned Plantation and Estate Homes each to be done in a slightly different style but begun with a physical drawing or sketch and then scanned into the computer for additional digital enhancement, painting, ink, chalk, watercolor, textures, etc. I will not be posting this series consecutively, but rather interspersing these pieces with other posts. I am experimenting with the various ways I can combine traditional hands on artwork with digital efforts in Corel Painter or Photoshop Elements.
This two-story wood frame plantation house is in Greek Revival style, with raised basement in rear, and a truncated pyramid roof and widow's walk. Six modified fluted Doric columns support the two-story porch roof. A balcony with an iron railing looms over the entrance, which has double doors, framed by sidelights and transom. The porch is mounted via a stairway with iron railing. The house is part of the Vernon Road Historic District.

Oh I hope you'll like the others in my Plantation series as well then Shawn - each using a different art style. I have to admit, I fell in love with the architecture of the deep south when I lived in Texas and traveled more throughout the south. Thank you so much Shawn.

Thank you so much Cheri - I loved getting to see these beautiful stately homes when I lived in the south. They hide a dark history, I know, but there are some beautiful sides of it too and it gave me a chance to go back to the drawing boards!
