Description

The second in my "Simple Life" series that began with "Gimme That Ol' Time Religion." The Amish sect have long personified the ideal of living simply, of appreciation for the most natural and least intrusive way of life, of respect for the environment. Robert Louis Stevenson could have been thinking of them when he penned these lines:

"The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life." ~Robert Louis Stevenson

And how appropriate this old Shaker hymn, the melody resurrected so beautifully in Aaron Copeland's Appalachian Spring and sung so sweetly here by Jewel. Very moving -
