Wow, what a wonderful poetic message! I would like to see this beautiful digitally enhanced flower as part of a new art theme in the group: "The Magic of Flowers". You are invited to submit this image. L/F Here is the link: http://fineartamerica.com/groups/the-magic-of-flowers.html?tab=overview

This is a beautiful image with stunning processing. My first impression was that this is an image with depth and meaning, and your description confirmed that. v & f

Lianne Schneider replied:

Carla I am so very sorry that this beautiful and touching comment slipped through the cracks somehow. And I'm so glad I found it today - it's important to me. This is one of my mother's two favorite poems I've ever written and the lilac bush - it's really hers. But the metaphor stands - so thank you so very very much for letting me know that you got it. xo

Lianne Schneider replied:

Madeline my deepest apologies - I was off FAA for several months and missed your lovely comment. Thank you so much - I'll be by to catch up as soon as I can.

Another vote for this beauty!

Lianne Schneider replied:

Thank you thank you thank you - the poem for this is my mother's favorite of all I've written so I should have said the image is for her too.

Ann Horn

Your photo and your writing is very sensitive and beautiful, Lianne. Thank you for your willingness to be so honest and vulnerable.

Lianne Schneider replied:

Ann, it is friends like you who take the time to read and process more than just the image who make me want to continue to do both - write and create art. Thank YOU for that - it means more than I can say.

Will Borden

Will Borden

A splendidly presented photo design, Lianne- your poem is very poignant and beautifully written!!

Lianne Schneider replied:

It just pleases me so much Will that you take the time to read as well as view. That means the world to me and I can't tell you how touched I am. Thank you.

I came back to give this one another vote and to praise the poem that accompanies it. Have you thought about a book of your poems and art? Let me know if you are working on it!

Lianne Schneider replied:

Awww how wonderful of you to say Lenore. Actually I do have two books out - the first mostly poetry and early photography, the second more photography with the poetry. But I'm thinking very seriously about a new one - perhaps an e-book for Nook. Books with color prints are very expensive to produce and sell. So I'll let you know when I figure out how to do it...lol. Thank you so much!!

Odd Jeppesen

Odd Jeppesen

Artist's Description

PRUNING LILACS

My lilac bush has passed her prime,
she's had her glory years
of luscious lavender sprays
and heady scented blooms.
Each new year sees her weaker,
less prolific in her flowering
because I've not had the heart
to prune her as I should.
I see in her a metaphor
for the seasons of my life
for if I had the courage
to prune myself back hard
to lop away those dead, gray limbs
and unproductive branches,
clip harsh thoughts that weigh me down
like spent and faded bracts,
if I could take myself down bare
to what seems a remnant of myself,
allow myself some dormant time, endure
the darkness of a discontented winter,
bear winds that waltz the snowflakes
through my unprotected branches,
then what seems harshest when it's done,
the necessary loss of letting go,
the fertilizing compost of my trimmings,
becomes in spring a second chance
to grow and bloom again.

My one regret is that having lost the battle with leukemia, I have to let go of something so special to me. I won't say goodbye - just may your lives be blessed as you have blessed mine."
