A very nice piece of work Lianne. Did you use a Photoshop filter to create the painterly effect?

Lianne Schneider replied:

Primarily no Carl - I usually paint in Corel but I also use Photoshop for special brushes, or light effects, etc. In this case I start in Corel particularly to do the undercoating - base coat in impasto to get the texture lift. But there are about 20 layers here each done differently - one in Photoshop using paint daubs, another in Corel using the impressionist brush, back to photoshop for a Topaz detail adjustment and so forth. Each layer on top of the previous one alters significantly the look and feel - and I try to end up in Corel for a more textured look to the "paint" - I paint by hand though Carl, as if I were painting on canvas. The only difference is that I begin with a very light black and white outline that I've created from the small original sketch using the technique I described in Holy Island. Thank you for your lovely comment Carl.

... I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;...

About Lianne Schneider

Lianne Schneider

As many of you are aware, Lianne is no longer with us. I am her son, Gordie, and have kept her account active to preserve the passion she had with her art and this community. Please see below for a "final note" she posted with a few of the last pieces she completed before passing away in November of 2015. "Being a part of this Fine Art America community has meant the world to me over the past years and I'd like to express my endless gratitude for all the support and encouragement you have given me so graciously. My one regret is that having lost the battle with leukemia, I have to let go of something so special to me. I won't say goodbye - just may your lives be blessed as you have blessed mine." I have a passion for the landscape of...
