I don't know how I missed this, Lianne. It is a marvelous work of art. Love the limited palette, the texture. and the movement toward the white cliffs. In all my trips to England, I have never been to Dover. So thanks for taking me there. l/f

Another in my "Sea Stories" collection in the "Down to the Sea in Ships" series based on photos or scans of black and white drawings done about 1840 and purchased as a public domain collection. Hand painted and textured.

I've Never Lived Beside the Sea

I've never lived beside the sea
Though I feel as if I have
but the sea fascinates me.
Its power, its moods, its vastness...are somehow
an endless source of inspiration to me.
I think of an ocean in a raging storm and I'm reminded
of the storms that life can bring to us
and the deceptive calm that often precedes them.
I think of the ship of my life
occasionally adrift, no wind to lift the sail,
at times, no landfall or welcoming shore in sight.
Some nights the stars wink out
and all seems black and endless
my astrolabe of little use.
But now and then
I see a lighthouse and I know that there is somewhere -
in a friend's heart, a lover's touch
a light...

My one regret is that having lost the battle with leukemia, I have to let go of something so special to me. I won't say goodbye - just may your lives be blessed as you have blessed mine."
