This is an original composition created from a number of public domain elements such as clip art or vector art of ships and public domain photos of seascapes by Melbye and Kasparides modified to simulate a storm near the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. Hand-painted digitally on a Wacom tablet using several different painting programs overlaid on top of each other. Each brushstroke is individually applied just as if I were painting in oils on canvas.
Dubrovnik, a city on the Croatian coast is called the Pearl of the Adriatic. It is a seaport and has been since the Middle Ages but its primary industry today is tourism because it is so picturesque and has retained its Old World feel.
According to Wikipedia: "The city of Dubrovnik was built on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages it became the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development during the 15th and 16th centuries. F...
As many of you are aware, Lianne is no longer with us. I am her son, Gordie, and have kept her account active to preserve the passion she had with her art and this community.
